Resume of Marat Purnyn

I am a computer engineering student who is passionate about robotics and A.I. While Marat Purnyn is my official name, Peter is the name everyone calls me, including my family.

Professionally, I have a great deal of experience with Computer Vision, and Autonomous Navigation. I have been interested in robots since the 6th grade after I read the works of Isaac Asimov. I started to seriously participate in Robotics completions in High school. During my study in Drexel University I had a chance working in 3 great Robotics Laboratories in US, Japan and Germany. I believe that it is important to establish strong international relationships in science.

In my free time, I enjoy reading about the advancements of technology in various different fields. I also enjoy working on my own projects and participating in hackathons.

In the future, I hope to make the science fiction I read in my youth become reality.

Micro- and Optoelectronics Lab, Osnabrück, Lower Saxony, Germany

  • Used multi-sensor data fusion and image processing for crop phenotype and detecting and distinguishing crops.
  • Developed mapping software for navigating and mapping a crop field outdoors while also marking individual dead plants.
  • Updated legacy free space navigation code for use with current and future systems.
  • Utilized ROS, MATLAB, OpenCV, Point Clouds, OpenSLAM, and C++.
  • Worked with SICK LIDAR sensors, Condor 3 Multispectral Camera, Fx8 MEMS scanners.

Tohoku University Human-Robot Informatics Laboratory, Sendai, Miyagi, Japan

  • Developed a program that can detect and remove a geodesic cage encompassing a quadrotor drone from the internal camera's video analysis of the surface beyond the cage.
  • Developed a program to create a panorama of the surface beyond the cage.
  • Utilized ROS, OpenCV and C++ to accomplish the task.
  • Worked with a Raspberry PI, Hokuyo LIDAR sensor, Parrot 2.0 Drone.

  • Developed a new HR performance review management application utilized throughout the entire company of 6000 employees using ASP.net and C# with SQL Server.

  • Learned the fundamentals of ROS, RViz, Arduino, Python, Mindstorms NXT, AutoCAD, CNC G-Code, and HUBO (humanoid robot).
  • 3D-printed arms for a quadrotor, created a simulation, and programmed controls for the system on an Arduino.
  • Competed in an internal competition to create a basketball-playing robot.
  • Placed 3rd in the Penn State Abington Robotics Competition by building a firefighting robot.
  • Reverse-engineered the protocol for a Syma 107 toy helicopter and created an evolution-simulation algorithm to achieve a particular height.
